“It’s about the story, subjects and viewers, not us. It’s also about being a human being in the process.”

Learn how one guy learned it's about the story and the subject and definitely not him (and his pretty pictures). Les Rose believes that if a viewer doesn't like the subjects in a story, they won't like the story. And it is your challenge to bring the subject to the viewer.

Les Rose is thrilled to be a photojournalist for the CBS News bureau in Los Angeles. His television career started in 1978. Prior to joining the L.A. bureau in 1997, Les worked 13 years at KCBS and from 1984-1986 he was with NBC News, Miami as a freelancer. He has also shot for WFLA (Tampa), KTVI (St. Louis), and WTSP (St. Petersburg).

His assignments are for The CBS Evening News, CBS Sunday Morning, 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, and The CBS Early Show. For almost 6 years he was the photojournalist for the “Everybody Has a Story” series with Steve Hartman, and together they produced more than 125 stories…all at the whim of a dart and a random pick from the phonebook. They are currently working together on the “Assignment America” series whenever Steve is west of the Rockies. Les’ awards include a Murrow and a DuPont with Steve Hartman, nine local Emmys.

Major stories that Les has been involved with include, 9/11 in Shankesville, Pennsylvania and New York City, the Cerritos Air disaster, the Civil Wars of Nicaragua and El Salvador for NBC News, the Northridge Earthquake, the Nagano Olympics, a hostage release in Wiesbaden, West Germany, the Malibu Fires, political conventions, multiple hurricanes, Oscars, Emmys, major sports events and countless celebrity interviews (and trials), including O.J. Simpson (with Las Vegas!) and Michael Jackson.

Bryan Barr of WBFF Fox 45 has been a Chief Photojournalist longer than he hasn't. In that time stuck in middle management, he has learned one classic fact in this business: honest hard work always trumps talent. Its true. In a perfect world, its best to have both. Given the requirement of choice, Bryan would hire someone who is has a positive attitude and is not afraid to get a little dirty. You will see some great stories highlighting both his work and that of the photojournalist staff at WBFF. You will leave his presentation with some helpful hints on how to get ahead in the modern television newsroom.

Bryan started his photojournalist journey in 1996 at the CBS affiliate in Harrisburg, PA. After many years and many teachable moments (mistakes), he moved on to the best little TV station in the country...WBFF FOX 45. There, Bryan learned from the some of the best visual journalists in the land what it takes to tell great TV stories. After a brief "vacation" at another great TV station...WHTM, Bryan is back at WBFF in Baltimore. He is currently the Chief Photojournalist of a staff of 12. Bryan lives in Towson, Maryland with his wife and 2 kids.
