Al Bello
Al Bello graduated with a Liberal Arts degree from the University of New York at Stony Brook in 1989. In March of 1990 Al took a position with London Publishing as a dark room manager. London Publishing produced many sports magazines including boxing magazines such as The Ring, and KO. Al soon found his way by photographing boxing on a weekend basis while toiling in the darkroom during the week. In 1993 Al landed a position as a junior photographer at Allsport which is now a part of Getty images.
Since Joining Allsport/Getty, Al has become Chief Sports Photographer in North America on a very talented staff and is assigned to cover sporting events and people in sport worldwide. He has had the pleasure of working in countries including England, France, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, Australia, Italy, Qatar, and Spain. He has visited most of the 50 States in the USA.
He has worked on editorial assignments for Sports Illustrated, ESPN The Magazine, Newsweek, Time Magazine, US News and World Report, Maxim, The New York Times, The LA Times, and The London Times. He has also worked on commercial assignments for Everlast, Reebok, Puma, Adidas, Canon, Discovery Channel, Bank of America, Sandisk, and Spike TV
Some of Al’s favorite events he has covered include many Super Bowls, World Series, and, Stanley Cups. He covered 3 Winter and 3 Summer Olympics Games. His Tennis favorites include the US Open, the French Open and Wimbledon. World cup Soccer men and women have also been some events Al has enjoyed. His favorite sport by far is boxing. Al has been to countless world title fights and boxing gyms in the last 17 years and he never gets tired of it.
Al’s photographic skills extend beyond event coverage. He enjoys doing work with athletes one on one. He is competent in studio and on location lighting. He can work in 35 mm, medium, or large 4x5 format. He is comfortable using film or digital cameras and is fully capable of transmitting photos on site. He also enjoys doing still and multimedia picture stories involving sport. Some of Al’s picture stories include “Cockfighting in Puerto Rico” “Senior Athletes” and a photo essay in 4x5 format on “The Faces of Boxing”
On a personal note, Al now lives in Merrick, New York. He enjoys spending every second of his off time with his wife Debbie of 13 years, his two children, Nicole (10) and Daniel (7), and his little Beagle named Maggie. He enjoys lifting weights, Scuba Diving, Play Station 2, and going to the movies.


Born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, Chris Usher graduated from Indiana University at Bloomington with a degree in Journalism. Usher spent several years as a newspaper photographer, (Troy Daily News; Richmond Palladium Item; Louisville Courier Journal; Miami Herald; Orlando Sentinel ) before going freelance and moving to Washington, DC in 1990.
