Najlah Feanny

Magazines and newspapers worldwide hire New York City-based photojournalist Najlah Feanny for her "day-in-the-life" style of reportage photography. To date, she has been commissioned for more than 2500 assignments.

She has covered national and political issues involving abortion, women's rights, poverty and guns; news stories about hurricanes, floods, wild fires and school shootings; in addition to the business world of mega mergers and chief executive officers and presidential campaigns.

About The Northern Short Course

History

The Northern Short Course in Photojournalism was founded in 1981, by the Directors of Regions 1, 2 and 3 as a joint educational program of those three regions. In 1986 the NPPA Board of Directors resolved that the NSC program be chartered and amended to be included in the Constitution and By-Laws under division XI, Special (Educational) Programs and Projects as section H. The NSC operates in conjunction with, but separate from the NPPA, and is governed by its own NSC board.

Administrative Staff

The 2009 Northern Short Course administrative staff includes: Michelle McLouglhin, Chair; Bill Auth, Logistics Chair; Natalie Nigito, Registrar; Will Yurman, Multimedia Chair; Mark Dye, Publicity; Tom Costello, AV production; Bob Davis, TV representative; John Walker, portfolio critiques; Larry Levin and Steve Falk, contest chairs; John Long, board member emeritus. The regional officers of regions 1, 2 and 3 also serve on the NSC Board. They include; Don Himsel R-1 Director; John Walker, R-1 Associate Director; Todd Maisel, R-2 Director; Mark Dye, R-2 Associate Director; Ted VanPelt, R-3 Director; Caroline Couig, R-3 Associate Director. The Northern Short Course receives support from the NPPA National Office, especially Executive Director, Jim Straight, as well as local support. The NSC also gratefully acknowledges the support it has received from the photo manufacturers and suppliers who make this conference such a success every year.

Financial statement of the NSC

Registration fees are applied directly to sponsoring the activities (i.e.: cost of travel and lodging for speakers and judges, promotion and mailings, awards and rental of AV equipment). The Northern Short Course gratefully acknowledges the support of all of our corporate sponsors and the many volunteers who make this event possible every year.
