WEDDING PHOTOJOURNALIST ASSOCIATION PROVIDES 20 EDUCATIONAL GRANTS FOR THE NORTHERN SHORT COURSE

The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) announced today that the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) has generously provided the NPPA with funds enough to support the tuition costs of 20 attendees to the upcoming Northern Short Course to be held March 11 – 13, 2010 in New Brunswick, NJ.

The WPJA is a membership organization formed in 2002, which represents photographers who use a documentary approach when photographing weddings. The WPJA helps members promote their services, holds quarterly contests for wedding photojournalism, and supports educational programs. The WPJA has been a proud sponsor of many Northern Short Course events dating back to 2003.

Beginning immediately, the NPPA will be accepting applications for tuition grants for the 2010 Northern Short Course on behalf of the WPJA. The only criterion to receive one of these grants is that the applicant must be a professional visual journalist or a student of visual journalism.

The NPPA will give first consideration to those applications that demonstrate they have been adversely affected by the economic collapse within the media industry. If this applies to you please include with your application a description of your situation and any corroborating information (notice of layoff, former employer contact information, cancelled freelance assignments, etc.)

WPJA grant applications for the Northern Short Course must be received by February 28, 2010.

To apply for a WPJA Sponsored tuition grant to the Northern Short Course please email your request to grants@nppa.org with the subject line “WPJA tuition grant northern short course” Applicants should include the following:

  1. Event you are applying for
  2. Name, address, phone number, email
  3. Employment history or current school information
  4. Short description of how furthering your education will help you as a professional
  5. Demonstration of hardship as outlined above. If applicable
  6. Will you be able to use this tuition grant even if you have to pay your own travel?
