Survival 2010- How to Keep Hope and Passion Alive as a Staffer
Workshop Date: Friday, March 12, 2010 - 9:00 AM
Workshop Speaker: April Saul
Philadelphia Inquirer staff photographer April Saul will help navigate the troubled waters of newspaper journalism.
In this session Saul will address the stressors facing staffers today and how to cope with them while continuing to produce high quality work. Saul will discuss how to maintain your passion while finding opportunity in the changing newsroom.
Saul is no stranger to challenges throughout her nearly three-decade long career in newspapers: she was the first female photojournalist at the Baltimore sun and was a single mother working part-time when she won her Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Journalism.

Under the threat of persecution, Haitian-born Carl –Phillippe Juste and his politically active family were forced to flee their homeland in 1965. Settling in Miami’s Haitian community, Juste flourished academically and attended the University of Miami. He vigorously pursued photojournalism and, since 1991, has worked as a photojournalist for The Miami Herald.
